Do you recognize the name Proton? It’s the compatibility layer that lets Windows games operate on Linux systems, and it’s the reason recent top-tier titles run flawlessly on devices like the Steam Deck.

SteamDB has uncovered a new tool called Lepton, built on Waydroid technology, which is set to run Android applications within Valve’s ecosystem. A logo featuring a frog paired with code lines has been observed so far, and SteamDB notes the most recent update for this tool was on Tuesday, December 2, 2025.
Naturally, Valve has made no official statements about Lepton, leaving its exact purpose unconfirmed. Early rumors, however, indicate the tool could be used to port VR games to Valve’s newly announced Steam Frame headset. This would let developers seamlessly bring their games to the device without the need to recode their Android APK files.
